No Risk Improve Online Fundraising

Whenever you are fundraising, make sure your approach and system will facilitate grass roots fundraising. Why is that important? Each time you send an email or make the “ask” from your site, it’s a person asking another person for help. When you can make that a one-to-one personal conversation, the better the results you will have. Your donors have a network of family and friends who share their values. They want to share their pet projects with their friends and they will grow your fundraising for you.

If your homepage is advertising an event that has already passed or the annual report is really from last year, your web visitor is going to think the organization is running backwards. To insure your online fundraising stays fresh and current, it is important that your online fundraising piece be flexible. Not having the capacity to change your online campaigns on a regular basis will make your donor’s think they missed the opportunity to help or that you are not working on a current project. Make sure you have enough control of the system to add new programs and change your options in ways that keep your program fresh and active.

A person coming to your website will only stay for 20 seconds before seeing what he wants or moving on. Getting above the noise and capturing the interest of your prospective donor quickly is critical to a successful fundraising program. Your donors are constantly being bombarded with information, emails and alerts. As you get permission to interact with your donors, it is still important that the conversation you have with them is relevant. Respect your donor’s time. With a dynamic fundraising system you’ll be able to keep the conversation focused on what is important.

Also, in keeping the conversation focused, it is more important to relate the benefits of your mission elements in the eyes of the donor than to your need for fundraising. You know the difference between vague national appeals verses specific local projects. So remember, it’s what’s in it for the donor and the recipients of your mission-based programs! Make sure the system you choose will allow your donors to donate to specific mission activity. The more your donors can influence your mission the better they feel and the more money they give.
